Description
Black Hardwood Engineered Oak Flooring
Black hardwood engineered oak flooring is a bold real wood flooring option that delivers a modern, architectural presence while retaining the depth and texture of natural timber. Finished in a deep black tone, the surface creates a clean and striking visual effect, making it well suited to contemporary interiors that favour contrast and strong material definition.
Each engineered oak board measures approximately 190 mm in width and 1900 mm in length, a proportion that works well across most room sizes. The wide plank format enhances visual continuity and helps spaces feel more open and composed, particularly in living areas where clarity and balance are important.
Surface Texture and Finish
The boards feature a brushed surface designed to highlight the natural grain and structure of the oak beneath the dark finish. Brushing enhances tactile definition, allowing the texture of the wood to be both seen and felt. Heavier brushing further accentuates grain contrast, reinforcing the inherent beauty of real timber even within a darker colour palette.
Micro-bevelled edges subtly frame each plank, adding definition without breaking the overall flow of the floor. The surface reflects light gently, preventing the black tone from appearing flat or overly heavy.
Construction and Stability
Black engineered oak flooring is constructed with a layered structure designed to improve dimensional stability. With a typical total thickness of around 14 mm, performance is determined by the quality of the internal core structure and the real wood wear layer.
This engineered construction allows the flooring to respond more effectively to normal indoor temperature and humidity changes, reducing the likelihood of excessive movement compared with traditional solid timber flooring.
Recommended Installation Method
For real wood engineered flooring, installation using a full glue-down method is recommended. Full adhesion fixes the flooring directly to the subfloor using a suitable flooring adhesive, improving overall stability and helping to minimise expansion, contraction, and the potential for movement or noise over time.
This installation approach is particularly important for wide plank and dark-coloured oak flooring, where long-term stability and acoustic performance are critical.
Interior Application
Black engineered oak flooring is well suited to modern residential interiors, including open-plan living spaces and architecturally designed homes. When paired with lighter walls, natural light, and restrained furnishings, the floor becomes a defining element that anchors the space without overwhelming it.
